Impressive new buildings are planned in the Pardaugava district in the Latvian city of Riga. These will include important new public buildings such as the Latvian National Library and an Acoustic Concert Hall, as well as several high rise buildings.
Complete reconstruction of the existing crossing of Daugavgrivas Street and Krisjana Valdemera Street is required to facilitate safe and smooth traffic circulation. The traffic intensity is expected to increase and special measures will be needed to accommodate pedestrian and bicycle flows and public transport.
Acting as subconsultants of the Latvian consultancy company P3, Witteveen+Bos has been commissioned to design several structures that are part of the reconstruction project. The project consists of extensive road (re)constructions as well as extensive structural works. Witteveen+Bos designed the structural works consisting of one fly-over, two tunnels (underpasses) and pedestrian stairs. For each of the structures, we prepared:
- two principal technical solutions
- final designs and structural calculations for the chosen solution
- detailed design calculations
The detailed designs of the structures as well as the roads were prepared by P3. In this way, the specific knowhow and strengths of both companies, i.e. our expertise in structural engineering and P3’s knowledge of Latvian design requirements, were optimally used.
